Not sure where to start on Bumpy Flight? Or just crashing the plane too many times? No shame, we’ve wiped out several times too at this point. This beginner’s guide on how to play Bumpy Flight should help you make it to your destination alive, solve lethal engine failures, server burgers, and answer stupid questions.
How To Play Bumpy Flight
Okay, time to explain.
The Goal

The goal of Bumpy Flight is simple enough. Take your selection of passengers from the airport you start in, to their destination, via a plane. You, and anyone you’re working with, are responsible for all the jobs associated with that. That is, loading luggage, boarding passengers, taking care of passengers’ requests, and not to be overlooked, flying the actual plane. If you can keep everything running and not crash the aircraft, you win.
Each run is split into distinct sections, most notably, pre-flight and in-flight.
Pre Flight Tasks
So you’ve arrived at the airport and your assortment of fliers are ready to board. You have a few tasks you need to get done before you take off. If you have a team, you can work together to get all these things done faster, but for the sake of giving you complete instructions, let’s just assume you’re doing everything on your own for now.
Luggage

The first order of business? Luggage. You should spawn in next to a luggage trailer, with shelves of bags. Pick them up with LMB (and hold it down to keep carrying them) and drop them in the cart. If you’ve got 6 bags, two can go in each trailer section, and two on the back of the vehicle itself. The physics is a little wonky so just move them around until they cooperate.
Once the bags are in, hop in the vehicle and drive it out of the baggage store before turning to the right. Drive around the building and park up near the plane.
Once you’re parked, you’ll need to carry all the luggage into the plane, and drop it in the cargo storage, which you’ll find at the back.
Boarding

When you’ve stashed all the suitcases, you can move onto boarding the passengers.
Head into the airport lounge, through the door with the plane. You should find your selection of big-headed, wall-eyed passengers waiting to board. Apparently they do not understand stairs, and you will have to escort each of them up to the plane.
Approach a passenger and interact with them to tell them to follow you. From here they will try and stay close to you. If this becomes an issue, interact with them again to get them to stay put. Once one is following you, head up into the aircraft and guide them to the seat you want them to sit in. Interact with it to place them there.
Rinse and repeated with all the other passengers.
Fuel
The next step is fuel. You’ll need to go to the thing that looks like a gas pump and interact with it. Then, you’ll need to take it over to the refuelling port inside the wing and wait until it fills up. This is pretty simple and straightforward. Once you’re done with that, you’re ready to fly.
The Flight

So you’ve completed all your prep and you’re ready to take off. Now you just need to get there in one piece… and that’s not always easy. You will need to take care of a lot of things that need your attention.
Plane Features
There are a few important features of the plane that you will need to understand, and try to remember the location of when it’s relevant.
- Cockpit – This is where you fly the plane. It’s also where you make passenger announcements. If you’re playing as a team, ideally someone should be flying in here at all times. Solo pilots… you’ll just have to wing it.
- Fridge – Near the cockpit door. This is where you get basic food from.
- Order terminal – A screen in the same area as the fridge. You can use this to order certain items. They’ll be delivered onto the wing of the plane. Yeah, it is pretty dangerous.
- Power supply – Found at the back of the plane in the luggage area. Needed to fix blackouts.
Passenger Needs
Passengers are a pretty demanding bunch, and about as soon as you sit them down they’ll start asking for stuff. You do need to keep them happy, though there will be things that require more urgent attention from you.
- Passenger wants water. – Fetch a bottle of water from the refrigerator located to the left of the cockpit door, and bring it to the passenger. You can only hold one of these at a time.
- Passenger wants a burger. – Fetch a burger from the refrigerator located to the left of the cockpit door, and bring it to the passenger. You can only hold one of these at a time.
- Passenger is sick – Order some medicine from the order terminal.
- Passenger is angry. – Speak to the passenger and answer two of their their dumb air travel questions to calm them down.
Flying The Plane
Also pretty important… you need to actually fly the plane. It’s simple enough to understand in theory, but it’s easy to panic. If you get it wrong, everyone dies. No pressure or anything. There are a few basic things you need to know. We’re assuming keyboard controls here.
- SHIFT raises the throttle, increasing speed.
- CTRL lowers the throttle, lowering speed.
- A and D tilt the plane from side to side.
- W and S tilt the plane forward or backward.
- If a plane tilts too far vertically, it may stall and drop.
Ideally, you want to get the plane up to its cruising altitude, and then keep it level until it’s time to land. It doesn’t need constant managing to stay level, will tend to drift if left alone, so you shouldn’t leave it unattended for too long. If the plan begins to drop, you should try and pull up with W.
Events

Now you’ve got to grips with the basics, you need to also deal with some of the curve balls the game might throw at you in the process. These are where a good run can come unstuck, so you should be ready for them.
- Ice
- Ice covers the plane and temperatures drop. You may need a blanket or two to deal with it, but it’s not extremely dangerous and usually resolves before there’s a huge problem.
- Turbulence
- The ride gets a little rocky. Make an announcement to tell the passengers to stay in their seats, and get ready to have a tough time walking around.
- Storm
- A bit more dangerous that turbulence, you need to quickly make the announcement to the passengers to stay seats and prepare to try and stop the aircraft getting blown about.
- Power Outage
- Who turned out the lights? You need to take a wrench (ordered through the Order Terminal) and fix the power box at the back.
- Engine Failure
- Probably the worst case scenario. One of your engines just failed and you’re losing altitude fast. You need to grab a wrench and head onto the wing to fix it, then right the plane before it crashes. This can sink a whole run, so if you see it, it’s panic time.
Tips

Bumpy Flight is not sure easy, even if you’re in a group. There are a few things you can do to make it easier.
- Designate Jobs.
- Have a pilot, a co pilot, engineer, cabin crew. Everyone knows their jobs at any one time, so it doesn’t end up with three people trying to do one task in a crisis.
- Pre-Load Your Hotbar
- Awkward when the engine is on fire and you’re falling through the sky, but you gotta wait for a wrench to arrive? Good news! You can order from the Order Terminal before takeoff. We’d suggest at least getting a hold of a wrench, and maybe some medicine before you start.
- Seat Passengers Forward.
- Try and put all your passengers in the front area. As you’re limited in how many burgers and water bottles you can carry, you might as well make your trips shorter.
