Grand Blue Gold Skills [How to Unlock Upgrade Cards]

It’s worth unlocking Grand Blue Gold Skills to upgrade your favourites even further. As with most aspects in Grand Blue, it all relies on EXP. One of the skills you might want to turn golden is the Grand Blue King’s Punch; it’s a fan favourite due to its damage output.

Grand Blue Gold Skills

If you’ve noticed some of your skills have turned golden in the skill tree and on your hotbar, you might be wondering why. Getting your skills golden should be one of your main priorities, as you unlock additional upgrades via cards.

How to Get Gold Skills

If a skill is golden, it means that it’s level 6 or above. It’s a cool cosmetic, but it also grants a few extra benefits. Not only does it boost your skills in general, as is the case each time you level up a skill, but it also unlocks the upgrade card system.

On the topic of levelling up, Sho’s written a Grand Blue Max Level guide. The level cap in the game will gradually increase over time, which applies to skill levels, too.

Card System

When selecting a gold skill, you’ll get an on-screen pop-up with three cards to choose from. These three cards always give you a choice of either a Windup buff, Cooldown buff, or Damage buff. It’s up to you which one you pick for a boost, but it’s a neat feature nonetheless. To know if a card can be chosen, look for a little arrow on the skills button on your hotbar.

Depending on the skill, the Damage card might be more suitable, whereas others might benefit more from a Cooldown buff, especially if the cooldown is exceptionally long.

How to Level Up a Skill Quickly

The best way to level up a skill in Grand Blue is by using it as much as possible. Equipping it to your hotbar and constantly using it in combat passively grants Skill EXP, which contributes to the skill’s level progression. Participating in boss fights provides more EXP, but regular mobs are fine, though they do grant less EXP.

If you want all of your skills to level up, you’ll have to switch between them, which, as you can tell, takes a while. To speed it up ever so slightly, you can equip the Prodigy trait, which increases EXP gain by 15%. This buff applies to all EXP types in the game, including Skill EXP. Obviously, it’s not a huge buff, but it’s useful if you want levelling to be quicker.

To get the Prodigy trait, you need to use Trait Rerolls, and it’s actually a 4-star rarity trait, making it just that little bit easier to obtain. As well as increasing your Skill EXP, it also boosts your Pet EXP, character EXP, and Lifeskill EXP. The latter affects your Mining, Cooking, Fishing, and Farming.

All in all, you can level up passively without stressing too much.
