The West Wood Remake is scary. Like, actually scary, especially by Roblox horror standards. This survival game pits you against both the ticking clock, and a surprisingly smart monster. This guide on how to play West Wood Remake should give you some tools to help you stay one step ahead.
How To Play West Wood Remake
We’ve divided this up into sections to make it easier. There are a few lists throughout you might need to check back with.
The Objective
So the basic gist of West Wood is this: You are stranded in a remote Appalachian town and its immediate area. You need to survive. This means taking care of your health like finding enough food and water. It also means staying away from the horrifying monster that stalks the town after dark. You’ll need to balance both of these to succeed, and maybe get a little bit crafty, as well.
Hunger And Thirst

Something you will need to keep an eye on throughout your time in West Wood are your Hunger and Thirst meters, found in the bottom left of the screen. These deplete fairly quickly over time, and you will need to keep topping them up. You can do this through foraging in the woods for wild-growing plants, and by searching containers inside buildings. It’s usually a good idea to carry spare food and drink around with you, because you probably won’t have much chance to scavenge during the night, and that’s a whole half of your playtime. So basically be prepared.
Items That Restore Your Hunger Bar
The following items will top up your Hunger bar:
- Berries (Found in bushes.)
- Tomatoes (Found in planters.)
- Bread
- Cheese
- Tinned Meat
- Tinned Core
Items That Restore Your Thirst Bar
The following items will top up your thirst bar:
- Water Bottles
- Berries
- Tinned Corn
- Coffee
Cooking
You can improve the usefulness of certain foods, like bread and cheese, through the cooking mechanic. This is achieved via finding a working oven inside a building. You will need to combine up three different food items together to create a recipe, and then close the oven. Below you’ll find a list of recipes and ingredients. Any other combinations will give you charcoal.

Day Cycle
Your activities in West Wood are all determined by the time of day. The game is divided into two halves, the daytime and the nighttime.
Daytime – 9am to 9pm
During the daytime, the town is largely safe. The area is lit up, though may be foggy. Lootable containers respawn at 9am, and the key to the General Store disappears and respawns in a random house. The Shop is open in this time. During the day you should scavenge for edible foods and other useful items, as well as cook up food you will need for your night shift. If you can, try to visit the Shop and pick up some useful supplies. You can also pick up missions to earn Soul Coins, the main currency, by picking up contracts in the center of town, and by surviving a night in-game..
Nighttime – 9pm to 9am
One night falls, you only have one task: survive til morning. You’ll need to try and evade the attention of the unnatural inhabitants of West Wood to see the dawn.
The Wendigo

After the clock hits 9pm then West Wood’s monster comes out to frolic, and possibly maul you. The Wendigo (or, as fans call him, Jerry) is a tall, gangly cryptid horror show, with a head like the skull of a deer. It’s extremely strong and fast, and it hates you personally. There is no beating the Wendigo. There is staying clear of its wrath until dawn hits at 9am, or there’s being discovered and ending up one of the fly-strewn piles of blocks players can find around town the next morning.
Jerry is smarter than the average Roblox horror monster, and you can’t evade it just by strolling into a house when it gets dark. The monster has very sharp senses, including very sensitive hearing. This is what the noise gauge on the bottom left of the screen is about. When you move around, you make noise, and this can attract the Wendigo. If it sees you, it can get to you, too. The Wendigo’s pathfinding is very good, and it can break doors open extremely easily. Once it’s in it will hunt through rooms looking for signs of anyone hiding inside. Maybe you’ll get able to run if you’re lucky, but if the monster corners you… well you won’t be getting the reward for completing the night.
Wendigo Survival
So I’ve talked about how the Wendig- Jerry can easily cancel your being alive subscription… so how do you survive it? Jerry is smarter than the average Roblox horror monster, and understanding a bit about how his AI functions make a world of difference. He will, at some point in the night, most likely break into wherever you’re hiding. Some AI factors will contribute to how hard he’s hunting for you. So here is some advice with all that in mind.
Lights
Leaving lights on in the house attracts Jerry’s attention, so make sure to turn everything off before nightfall.
Sound
Jerry has very good hearing and can home in on footsteps. Don’t move around too much, and crouch when he’s on the prowl to make sure you’re not detected.
Doors
If a door that was open is suddenly closed, Jerry may get suspicious and go to investigate. It might seem counterintuitive, but shutting doors isn’t necessarily always the best option. They don’t actually stop him anyway.
Traps
Stepping in a bear trap is likely to make anyone suspicious that someone has it out for them, Jerry is no different. If you’re setting traps, be careful where you place them. Make sure they’re in positions where you’d probably already in danger is Jerry is in situ.
Distractions
Tied into the sensitive hearing, if Jerry comes calling you can use things like phones and other noise-making devices to attract his attention, giving you time to sneak away.
Exits
Make sure you know where the nearest exit is, and have a clear path to it in the event of Jerry getting into the house you’re in. (Which is very likely to happen.) You should try not to box yourself in anywhere, as a lot of the time your chances of survival depend on how quickly and quietly you can get out of dodge while the wendigo is hunting around.
Hope this has been enlightening (though not so much light that it gets the attention of Jerry). If you are interested in more horror walkthroughs, we’ve got one on how to play Anomaly Cafe, and another on Home Alone Anomalies.
