Sci-fi co-op shooter Mycopunk has left Early Access, which it entered in July last year. Developer Pigeons at Play and publisher Devolver Digital have launched the full 1.0 version of the game on PC and PlayStation 5.
So, Mycopunk brings customizable squad-based shooting set in a bizarre sci-fi universe alongside a wonderfully unhinged sense of humour. The game is available on Steam and PlayStation 5 for $14.99, with a limited-time 50% discount.
What’s the scoop?
A mysterious fungal threat is spreading across the surface of New Atlas, and somebody has to clean up the mess. Unfortunately for a squad of robot rejects, that somebody happens to be them. They’ve been hired by the SAXON corporation and given one last opportunity to achieve profitable glory instead of ending up on the scrap heap.
Welcome to the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a ragtag bunch of exterminators tasked with investigating a planet-wide fungal catastrophe. You’re sent on dangerous missions to the moon’s surface, armed with advanced combat technology and the responsibility of driving the mycological menace back where it came from.
Mycopunk gives you an outrageous arsenal of futuristic firearms and even a few power tools, which you can upgrade using a grid-based customization system. There are hundreds of hand-crafted upgrades, and every mission can reward you with new mods to slot into your equipment.
Mycopunk supports four-player co-op
You can plan around different roles and support your teammates. And between missions, your squad can return to the H.U.B., an orbital dropship packed with toys, games, secrets, and other distractions. You can hang out with your friends and learn more about the galaxy.
With the version 1.0 launch, Mycopunk has added a lot of new additions. There’s a new character called the Mycologist. She comes with her own collection of upgrades and abilities, which include Sporelift, Fungal Skewer and a passive infection ability.
There’s also a new normal mission called Population Control, which asks you to clear out areas with particularly high enemy density. Then, the update adds a mini special assignment called The Couch. Meanwhile, the new weapon joining the arsenal is the Diffraction Driver, an ion scattergun that fires in a short-range cone.
