Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has announced Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale. It’s a rhythm and puzzle action-adventure based on Southeast Asian food and culture. And there’s a giant spoon that’s at the centre of it all.
The game is being developed by Metronomik, which has previously made the game No Straight Roads (music plays a central role in this game, too). Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam. It’ll be available digitally across all platforms, while Nintendo Switch 2 will also have a physical edition.
Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale follows a girl named Kaya
She sets out on a coming-of-age journey involving family, courage, and self-discovery. Her goal is to become a Worldbuilder, just like her parents. To become certified, Kaya has to pass a test by gathering all the Giants across the world and performing the Renewal Ritual, which rejuvenates the flavours of the world.
So, Kaya is armed with a giant Spoon. And alongside the Spoon, Kaya can use the unique powers of the Ondeh to interact with the world around her, solve puzzles, and deal with the eccentric creatures standing in her way.
The story takes place in Selera, a whimsical world inspired by the rich and diverse cultures of Southeast Asia. Selera means appetite or taste in Malay, while Ondeh-ondeh is a bite-sized sweet snack made from glutinous rice flour, filled with liquid palm sugar and rolled in grated coconut.
You’ll travel across different regions filled with charming villages, breathtaking landscapes, magical encounters, and new friends. Each region is shaped by Southeast Asian traditions, local flavours, and lively music. In fact, the game uses the popular Malaysian folk song Rasa Sayang.
Speaking of songs, rhythm is a huge part of Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale. You follow the tempo while exploring, solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and navigating the world. Every beat can help unlock new paths and empower Kaya’s abilities.
