Yakuza and Death’s Door-Inspired Beat ‘Em Up Knuckle Paradise Launches Steam Demo

With a decent chunk of punching and exploring, Knuckle Paradise has dropped its first demo on Steam. It’s publisher ARTE France and developer Flying Oak Games’ upcoming beat ‘em up is available to play right now as part of Steam Next Fest.

A retired boxer, an abandoned amusement park, an underground fighting tournament, and a warrior chicken!

Developed by the team behind ScourgeBringer and NeuroVoider, Knuckle Paradise is a single-player, hand-drawn pixel art beat ’em up. It takes plenty of inspiration from classic 90s action comedies, buddy cop movies, and character action games like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, and Death’s Door.

The story follows Jane Strong, a retired boxer who ends up abducted and stranded on an abandoned amusement park island called Wingsland Paradise. She’s also forced to compete in an underground martial arts tournament.

She teams up with Cocotte, a noble warrior chicken who’s more than capable of helping her kick some serious backside. The little warrior can help you overpower enemies in unexpected ways, and you can unlock new skills by finding hidden martial arts magazines scattered around the park. Meanwhile, Jane can hunt down protein bars to increase her maximum health.

The combat has fluid movement, aerial combos, expressive fighting, and responsive controls, with Jane and her enemies getting launched through the air as you string attacks together.

Also, Wingsland Paradise is full of side activities, hidden upgrades, unlockable abilities, and all sorts of strange places. You get to infiltrate a nightclub using stealth, take part in high-speed car chases, wander through a confusing mirror house, and tackle other surreal situations.
