Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction is the latest game to land on Steam. It takes the social deduction theme and turns it into a single-player investigation roguelite set in a noir city crawling with a powerful criminal syndicate.
Indie developer Gilded Rune Games has teamed up with publisher Yogscast Games for the detective adventure. In Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction, you get to be the detective yourself, piecing together clues and trying to work out which characters are telling the truth and which are not.
The actual investigations take place on procedurally generated grids filled with different characters. Your job is to interrogate them, review the clues they provide, and decide who deserves to be arrested. There are four categories of roles to keep track of: Innocent, Meddler, Underling and Traitor.
You’ll encounter more than 175 individual handcrafted roles across your cases. The Underlings are liars, the Traitors are even worse, and even characters who mean well might have something dodgy going on. Trusting people is a dangerous hobby in this city.
Some of the roles bring special mechanics to Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction
Take the Mathematician, for example, who announces the sum of all evil role addresses. Then there’s the Critic, who causes reputation loss to be doubled. These little twists mean you’ll need to pay attention to more than just whether someone’s story sounds believable.
Also, every arrest has consequences, because Dupery doesn’t let you get away with chucking innocent people behind bars. Arresting good-aligned roles reduces your reputation, and if that meter drops too low, you’ll get fired. Yes, fired.
There are three distinct regions with their own mechanics and roles that change how you approach investigations. Every region has its own campaign, and there are nine tiers across all three regions. Once all nine tiers have been unlocked across every region, you can enter the Syndicate’s own region and take on the boss. This is the brutal final run.
So, grab Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction from Steam, as there’s a 20% discount going on right now.
