Discover Réunion Island’s Cirque de Mafate in the New Steam Demo of Cosy Adventure Mafate

The Cirque de Mafate is a secluded volcanic valley on the French Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Madagascar. It’s beautiful, no doubt, but it has no roads or cars, and you can only reach it on foot or by helicopter.

A pretty fascinating place to base a game on, which is being utilised rightly by indie developer Blue Ramen Studios. Mafate is their upcoming title, which takes the valley’s isolation and turns it into a world full of hiking trails, tiny villages, lush forests, waterfalls, and towering cliffs.

Mafate is heading into October Steam Next Fest and has an updated demo out on Steam now. In the game, you’ll be delivering letters, taking photos, befriending the locals, and occasionally letting your camera spirit possess an animal.

Mafate is a faithful but slightly magical interpretation of the actual region, as evident from the demo

The game combines Réunion Island’s natural scenery with its myths, traditions, and rich Creole heritage. You play as a legendary mail carrier who’s making his very first journey through Mafate. Delivering letters to the people living in its isolated villages is his job.

Meanwhile, Luna is a young Creole woman who’s spent her entire life in mainland France. After her grandfather dies, she returns to Réunion Island to comfort her grandmother. But then, a mysterious event sends her back in time to Réunion Island in the 1970s, transforming her into a magical camera in the process.

So, Luna ends up accompanying the man who will eventually become Mafate’s legendary mail carrier. Luna brings a photography system that encourages you to pay attention to what’s happening around you and take photographs.

You can play the updated Mafate demo on Steam now, ahead of Steam Next Fest kicking off on October 19th.
