The age-old fairy tale of The Frog and The Princess is getting a new spin. The story has been turned into a hand-drawn 2D precision platformer by WoodRunner Games, called Croak. The game is hopping onto Xbox and PC in March 2027, and it’ll also be available on Game Pass on day one.
Follow the Frog Prince and his ridiculous adventures
It revolves around a prince who’s been turned into a frog by a curse. Now he has to make his way through a fractured fairytale kingdom, lift the curse, and reach the Witch’s Banquet. There’s a castle to reach, a kingdom to save, and an awful lot of jumping to do.
The Frog Prince uses his stretchy tongue to grapple onto walls, objects, and even other critters around the kingdom. He propels himself forward and bounces off whatever happens to be in his way. You can use it to climb, launch yourself across gaps, and chain movements together into these pinball-like bounces. Basically, the frog has turned his tongue into his own Swiss Army knife!
Croak has hundreds of hand-crafted rooms, with interactive platforming elements that you’ll need to manipulate to keep moving. Each level has hidden collectibles, secret spots, and challenges. And there’s also an online leaderboard.
There are four hand-painted biomes to explore on the way to the Witch’s Banquet, including swamps, haunted mines, snowy mountain ranges, and the cursed castle. Along the way, you’ll meet a cast of quirky, lovable characters, each with their own motives and abilities.
Also, each area has its own gameplay twists, enemies, secrets, and bosses, along with traversal abilities that change how you move around. One example is the ability to freeze yourself into a frogcicle, letting you glide across spikes.
You can wishlist Croak on Steam now.
